Bio

Wan Li Zhang was born in Kashi, China. She studied at the Xi'an Academy of Fine Arts from 1980 to 1987 and received both her Bachelor and Master of Fine Arts degrees there. She then taught at her alma mater until 1990. During this period, she participated in many group exhibitions across the globe, from the vibrant art locales of England and Japan to her homeland of China. Her exceptional artwork has been selected to be in national and provincial art exhibitions, and she received accolades such as two awards from the Shanxi Young Artists Exhibition. Her work has also been published in numerous national art magazines, reflecting her influence and reach within the art community.

In 1990, she moved to Vancouver, Canada, and continues teaching and painting to this day. Her works are widely collected in Canada, the U.S, England, China, Japan and Taiwan.

Her works span a broad spectrum of mediums, including printmaking, illustration, mural design, and painting in acrylic and oil. Her thematic focus is equally varied, from intimate figure drawings to expressive still lifes and landscapes.

Since moving to Canada, she has mainly had group and individual shows in the Lower Mainland and in Beijing, China.

Her exhibitions invite viewers into a rich dialogue with her works, which are not only visually beautiful but also deeply imbued with her cross-cultural experiences and artistic journey.
